Deconstruction raises questions that deserve more than a quick answer, and a good book gives you room to sit with them. This is a carefully curated list of the books I recommend to anyone deconstructing or reconstructing their faith.
The books are grouped into three themes. General Deconstruction covers the big picture, including doubt, family life and parenting. Theology is for rethinking the doctrines you were taught, from historical and biblical theology to general theology. Trauma is for people who were hurt in the Church, including through purity culture, sexual abuse and spiritual abuse. You do not have to read them in order. Start with the section that matches the questions you are carrying right now.
This is a living list, and I will add to it as I find more books worth recommending. If there is one that helped you, tell me about it.
